the swiss-bolivian writer eugen gomringer (*1925) is best known for his "concrete poetry" – poems that consist of visually arranged constellations of words on a page. gomringer also published many texts on the "concrete art" movement.
this monograph on painter and bauhaus pioneer josef albers (1888-1976) was published in 1968. the dustjacket features one of albers' famous "homage to the square" paintings, ...
... repeated as a blind debossing on the white cloth cover.
the clean, "swiss" typography by josef müller-brockmann (1914-1996), with akzidenz-grotesk type in a grid-based layout, ...
... is a perfect match for albers' art that is often grid-based, too.
there is a stunning picture section with works by albers – not the usual half-tone reproductions ...
... but real silkscreen prints (serigraphs) using individually mixed inks. these colours are just amazing!
