victor curt habicht:
niedersächsische kunst in england
edler & krische, hannover, 1930
printer: edler & krische, hannover
size: ?? x ?? cm
designer: friedrich vordemberge-gildewart
victor curt habicht (1883-1945), an art historian, writer and professor at the technische hochschule hannover, is the author of this book about pieces of old low-saxon art in english museums/collections.
the impressum credits friedrich vordemberge-gildewart (1899-1962) for the jacket and cover design. "v–g" is better known for his constructivist paintings, but he was also a modernist graphic designer – hannover-based like kurt schwitters.
the typography shows typical design elements of early new typography as demonstrated by jan tschichold's seminal 1928 book (see story 29): sans-serif type, asymmetric (uppercase) titles, bold page numbers and rules, ...
... and asymmetrically arranged photos: note that they are all ranged right, while the captions are ranged left.
