anton stankowski (1906-1998) is an important modernist graphic designer and photographer who is often overlooked. born in gelsenkirchen (ruhr area), stankowski worked for the "werbebau" agency founded by max buchartz and johannes canis. in 1929 stankowski started to work for max dalang's agency in zürich, switzerland, where he worked alongside hans neuburg and richard paul lohse. stankowski's work had a major influence on the emerging swiss modernist graphic design. in the 1930s stankowski had to leave switzerland and returned to germany. after difficult war years stankowski settled in stuttgart and became a very successful graphic designer is a modernis.
this jacket is an example of stankowski's "swiss" style design work.
these are memoirs of german journalist kunz von kauffungen (*1904), known as "ku-ka". the title "ohne maulkorb" means not muzzled.
