when swiss architect felix schwarz (*1917) built a house for his family, his wife lotte schwarz documented the project in a diary. this diary with a house was published by girsberger in zürich in 1956.

the book was designed by ernst scheidegger (*1923) who is brobably best known as a photographer. scheidegger was max bill's assitant in the 1940s and taught at the hfg ulm in the 1950s.

the book design is swiss modernist – lowercase titles on jacket and cover, asymmetric page layout, ...

... the drawings on rough brown paper remind of catalogues designed by other hfg ulm teachers – max bill (book 177) and vordemberge-gildewart (book 225).

there are photos of the house and surrounding landscape: when the house was built, it was in the open countryside, in the middle of hayfields. today, that area look different: many more houses – and a motorway just a few jards away ...
