"gruppe 33" was a group of basel-based modern artists and architects founded in 1933. some of its members also exhibited with the "allianz" group (see stories 203, 136). this is the catalogue of an exhibition held at the occasion of the group's 30th anniversary.

the catalogue was designed by peter von arx (*1937), a basel school graphic designer (see story 211). asymmetric titles and page layout with sans-serif type are standard swiss. the frontis consists of a signed and numbered print by ernst messerli (1907-1974), a gruppe 33 artist.

the text was written by basel museum man georg schmidt (1896-1965) who is portayed in a painting by walter j. moeschlin (below).
