deutscher kunstverlag, berlin, 1931
size: 25 x 13 cm
designer: (unknown)
this modern architecture guide for berlin was compiled by regierungsbaumeister heinz johannes and published in 1931.
note the silvery photographic jacket with modernist asymmetric title in lowercase stencil-style "futura black" which was based on a 1926 design by josef albers and made into a typeface by paul renner in 1929.
there are indexes by districts and by architects.
from the featured buildings many great examples were later destroyed in ww2, e.g. the "mossehaus" by erich mendelsohn (below left).
the "wohnstadt carl legien" (below right) in prenzlauer berg, designed by bruno taut, has survived the times and was recently restored to former beauty, see this picture.
there are numerous modernist ads, e.g. for the werkbund magazine "die form".
the foldout map shows all featured locations.
