pierre claude is the pseudonym of jewish alsatian writer léon cerf (1893-1951). his novel "friede am rhein" (peace on the rhine) was first published in 1935 by oprecht & helbling in zürich, a publisher specialicising in books that could not be printed in germany anymore at the time. the book was made into a film in 1938 which was banned by the nazis.
