this history of the (unsuccessful) german "march revolution" of 1848 by kurt kersten (1891-1962) was published in the year when the nazi "revolution" was in full swing. kersten was among the writers whose books got burnt by the nazis, and he soon emigrated.

the jacket by georg salter (1997-1967) combines a historic print of street fights with a red fraktur title in an asymmetric composition. also "1848" is written in a 19th century style face. the original belly band is still present.

this salter jacket is not documented in jürgen holstein's excellent reference books (isbn 300010772x and 3000147861, both out of print). salter has not signed this one on the edge as he often did but he is credited in the impressum.
