german writer ernst toller (1893-1939 wrote his famous 1927 play "hoppla, wir leben!" (oops, we live!) after he had spent five years in prison after the failed german revolution of 1918/19.
the jacket by an unknown designer is moderately modernist: red rules, sans-serif title, and a photo (of the author). the red cover is flashy, ...
... however the book typography is traditional.
toller left germany in 1933. in 1939 he committed suicide in new york.
