this newspaper size, gravure printed pamphlet was published by the swiss social democratic party, probably late 1943.

no designer is credited, however the graphic design catalogue (isbn 3775709916 or isbn 3775707670) of richard paul lohse (1902-1988) attributes the front and back cover to him.

the photomontage on the front is indeed typical for lohse who just at that time found his own style as an abstract painter, exclusively using rectangular picture elements in a strictly vertical and horizontal arrangement. similarly, in the photomontage two construction worker's tools – plumb line and trowel, crossed like hammer and sickle! – are arranged in an exact right angle, along with an asymmetrically placed slogan in bold akzidenz-grotesk: "understand, plan, build".
