richard paul lohse (1902-1988) worked as an editor and designer for the swiss architectural magazine "bauen+wohnen / building+home / construction+habitation" in the years 1947-1956. starting in 1952 a special version for germany was launched – here we have the first 12 issues. note the changing colours, and the standardised cover photo placement after issue 4.

let's have a closer look at issue 4 with its striking cover in lohse's trademark overprinting montage style – similar to books 52 and 371 – visualising the magazine's layout grid of 3 x 5 squares. in 1952 the magazine changed its typeface to futura, except for the title logotype staying akzidenz-grotesk. the article below propagates standardisation in architecture, mentioning corbusier's "modulor man" as well as japanese houses based on tatami-mat units.

again lohse-style overprinting in this article on french designer/engineer jean prouvé. this and other examples from "bauen+wohnen" were later compiled in a book (see story 99).
