the swiss cultural magazine "du" (you) was founded in 1941, with actor and writer arnold kübler (1890-1983) as its first editor-in-chief. "du" still exists today.
this issue with the theme the swiss worker was published in the middle of ww2. there are great photos by noted swiss photographers such as werner bischof (cover), ...
... jakob tuggener (above), ...
... paul senn (above, below right), hans staub (below left), ... ...
... and again tuggener. while the bled-off photos are gravure-printed on white, some text pages are printed letterpress on a contrasting beige paper.
in the early years "du" was designed by photographer and graphic designer emil schulthess (1913-1996). this issue is set in sansserif with mostly asymmetric titles, except for the novel pages where bodoni is used. there are some nice modernist ads.
