this jacket is another masterpiece by photomontage genius john heartfield (1891-1968) ...
... for eros in the jail by karl plättner (1893-1945), a german communist activist and writer who was imprisoned 1922-1928.
the book is about the inhuman prohibition of sexual contacts for prisoners (plättner knew what he was talking about).
note the double-imposed image of a naked woman in front of the prisoner's face. heartfield signed the jacket on the lower spine.
although the book's typography is traditional, some of the ads are modernist.
