book (design) story #454
kurd kisshauer:
der sternenhimmel im feldglas
prometheus-bücher, hesse & becker verlag, leipzig, 1928
printer: hesse & becker, leipzig
size: 19 x 13 cm
designer: kurt fiedler (jacket), walter dexel (cover)
here another example from the "prometheus" book series we came across in stories 249, 252 and 252.
walter dexel (1890-1973) developed a standardised cover concept, and often also designed the jackets – however this jacket bears the signature of kurt fiedler (1894-1950), a dresden artist and graphic designer.
kurd kisshauer (1886-1958), scientist at the planetarium in dresden (according to the title page), explains how to explore the night sky with a simple telescope or binoculars.
the inside pages are in traditional typography, and the "prometheus" logo on the title page is still the old version.
there are photos of equipment, a foldout sky map, and ...
... a brochure about prometheus books was laid in.
