stedelijk museum / n.v. uitgeversbedrijf "de spieghel", amsterdam, 1938
size: 27 x 22 cm
designer: (unknown)
this is the catalogue of an important abstract art exhibition shown in the stedelijk museum amsterdam in 1938, with a work by theo van doeburg on the cover.
among the text contrubutors are painters ...
... piet mondrian (1872-1944) and ...
... wassily kandinsky (1866-1944), ...
... alongside two of switzerland's most influential promoters of modernism, georg schmidt (1896-1965) and sigfried giedion (1888-1968). the year before, schmidt had organised the major exhibition "konstruktivisten" at the kunsthalle in basel (see story 700).
although willem sandberg is listed as a member of the exhibition committee, he doen't seem to have designed this catalogue (as he usually did for the stedelijk museum). it is not in his style, and no designer is credited.
