we have come across german architect and engineer konrad wachsmann (1901-1980) in story 227.
this is a catalogue of an exhibition about his work which was first shown in vienna and then travelled to munich and zurich.
although the booklet features a modernist layout with sansserif type, the uppercase titles are not typically "swiss": it was produced in austria.
wachsmann's modular constructions are very much in the vein of richard paul lohse's painting – they were friends. also wachsmann's theoretical statements (above) remind very much of lohse's.
although wachsmann had emigrated to the u.s. in 1941, in the 1950s he repeatedly returned to teach in europe, e.g. at the hfg ulm and in salzburg.
wachsmann's famous "knots" constructed with standardised modules ...
... and biographical notes on the final page.
