at the occasion of bauhäusler josef albers' (1888-1976) 70th birthday, the kunstverein freiburg im breisgau (germany) organised an axhibition of his art.
after studying and teaching at the bauhaus, albers had emigrated to the u.s. in 1933. in the 1950s albers was a guest professor at the hfg ulm.
eugen gomringer (*1925) wrote the introductory text, and there is also a poem by jean arp. the catalogue is designed in the hfg ulm style, with all-lowercase sansserif set ragged right – credited in the impressum to "anthony fröshaug, hochschule für gestaltung ulm". anthony froshaug (1920-1984) taught typography in ulm, more about him in story 199.
albers' biography runs over several pages on the left side, while artworks of the respective period are listed/reproduced on the right.
there is a note that the printing plates for the colour reproduction (cover) came from book 16 which had been published the year before.
