"america by car" is a travel report by swiss writer felix moeschlin (1882-1969), president of the swiss writers' association since 1924. book story 450 covers another one of his books.
the photomontage jacket and the cover are credited to an artist who designed many books for eugen rentsch's publishing company (and also the associated rotapfel-verlag): pierre gauchat (1902-1956). note the initial "g" below the cover title. more about him in the next story.
the map drawing on the end papers was designed by his wife elsa moeschlin-hammer (1879-1950), a swedish-born painter, showing the roundtrip ...
... which covered 20'000 kilometers according to the subtitle.
the stunning photographs are credited to a dr. kurt richter (no further info found about him): ...
... countryside, ...
... cities, ...
... and swiss-born structural engineer othmar hermann amman with his hudson river bridge, still under construction at the time and finally named george washington bridge.
