in the 1950-60s the büchergilde zürich published a series of detective stories – called "sphinx series".
all had covers with an egypt-inspired design in varying colours, and typically "swiss" assymetrical akzidenz-grotesk typography.
the cover is signed "gessner": robert s. gessner (1903-1982) was a swiss abstract artist who exhibited with the "allianz" (see also story 334).
the typography of the inside pages is traditional.
on the last page a list of "sphinx series" editions.
