auf dem amazonas
eugen rentsch verlag ag, erlenbach-zürich, 1946
printer: buchdruckerei effingerhof ag, brugg
size: ?? x ?? cm
designer: pierre gauchat (jacket+cover), percy lau (drawings)
pierre gauchat (1902-1956) designed numerous book jackets and covers for the publisher eugen rentsch, among them another one by the same author.
the jacket title looks like written on a bent piece of paper that is floating on muddy water, apparently referring to amzonas river.
german richard katz (1888-1968) was a popular travel writer. the jewish author emigrated in 1933 first to switzerland and then to brazil.
his book "on the amazonas" is from this period. katz returned to switzerland in 1956.
the drawings are by percy lau (1903-1972), a peruvian-born artist living in brazil.
the pages have yellowed considerably, obviously due to the rather poor quality paper of the immediate post-ww2 years.
note the maps on the endpapers.
