book (design) story #678
kenneth c. lindsay, jean cassou, nina kandinsky:
kandinsky 1866-1944
kunsthalle basel, 1966
size: ?? x ?? cm
designer: (unknown)
this retrospective exhibition of wassily kandinsky (1866-1944) travelled from new york to paris, den haag, and basel.
the catalogue cover by an uncredited designer is based on crossing rectangular shapes with the artist's name and life data.
the centred typography is not in the "basel school" style usually associated with kunsthalle catalogues of this era – probably rather the work of an american designer.
the texts were written by art historian kenneth c. lindsay (1919-2009), ...
french writer jean cassou (1897-1986), ...
... and the artist's widow, nina kandinsky (1896-1980).
