this is another booklet about the "gruppe 1933", a basel-based group of modern artists we came across in our previous) story.
the booklet combines reproductions of paintings with texts by kunsthalle basel director lucas lichtenhan (1898-1969), ...
... art critic and museum man georg schmidt (1896-1965), ...
... and artist paul camenisch (1893-1970), gruppe 1933's president.
schmidt's text is dated 6 january 1939, suggesting a publication date of early 1939.
the booklet was printed by benno schwabe & co., the publisher jan tschichold (1902-1974) had worked for since 1933. although no designer is credited, the refined, elegant typography has "tschichold" written all over it – a late example of his asymmetric style before the master converted to more neo-traditional designs.
