this is a 1971 issue of "tm" (typografische monatsblätter), a swiss typographical magazine which was founded in 1933 (see also stories 576 and 646). the cover design is by heinrich fleischhacker (dates?), who taught typography at the basel design school.
the ad for berthold akzidenz-grotesk (above on the left) was designed by josef müller-brockmann. it demonstrates the possibilities of the phototypesetting technology which gained popularity in the 1970s.
tm had merged with "sgm" (schweizer graphische mitteilungen) in 1952, and was edited by rudolf hostettler (1919-1981) for many years. the opening text is by helmut schmid (*1942), a typographer we will hear more about in our next story.
helmut schmid also contributed a (visual) poem with the title "ryoanji" (the famous zen temple with rock garden in kyoto, japan), and a text on shiko munakata, a japanese master woodblock printmaker.
the mag's typography is swiss style, with sansserif set unjustified.
below an article on typography in the streets of london.
some ads (eg below on the right) are influenced by the "psychedelic" graphic design of the day.
