another novel about a proletarian hero who gets in trouble with the authorities, this one written by josef lenhard (1886-1965). the sturdy, narrow-bold sans-serif on the poster-like dustjacket matches the "hammering" title.
in the early 1930s, jan tschichold (1902-1974) reworked the visual identity of the bücherkreis book club. he also modernized the logo – a book-reading figure obviously influenced by the isotype system (more about this in the next story).
the bright orange cloth cover and the title page feature a semi-bold sans-serif ...
... which is also used for chapter headings. note the asymmetrically placed page numbers.
