this 1953 kunsthaus zürich exhibition catalogue epitomizes the close interrelation between geometric "concrete" art and swiss graphic design of that era.
the exhibition featured "12 contemporary american painters and sculputors".
the 12 squares on the cover obviously stand for the 12 artists, ...
... although ironically none of these were actually working in a geometrical abstractionist style the catalogue's cover design may implicitly suggest ...! (see reproductions of paintings by edward hopper and jackson pollock below.)
gottfried honegger-lavater (*1917) is credited for the design – a concrete artist for sure!
