emil ruder, armin hofmann:
graphic design
pharos verlag, basel, 1967
printer: kirschgarten-druckerei ag, basel
size: ?? x ?? cm
designer: kurt hauert
almost a year passed since my last story ... been too busy otherwise. well, let's carry on with a booklet about the basel school of arts and crafts, ...
... published 1967 with texts by two of their legendary teachers: emil ruder (1914-1970) and armin hofmann (*1920) who hopefully will enjoy celebrating his 90th birthday this year.
the layout of the texts in 3 languages (english, german and french) is interesting: not organized in vertical columns, as often in swiss typography, but in horizontal "bands" ...
... which continue in the same vertical position on the next page. note the asymmetrical page layout (including page numbers).
texts and illustrations explain the concecpt and curriculum of the basel school.
the booklet was designed by another influential basel teacher/designer, kurt hauert (*1924).
also this ad for the print shop that produced the booklet is designed in the typical basel style.
