printer: huber & co. ag, frauenfeld
size: 21 x 30 cm
designer: richard paul lohse
from 1947 to 1956 richard paul lohse (1902-1988) worked as an editor (and graphic designer) for the swiss architectural magazine "bauen+wohnen" (see story 378). this book is basically a compilation of articles about modern residental and holiday houses previously featured in the magazine.
on the dustjacket there is a black and white photo of a modern bungalow in idyllic woods. the asymmetric title (in bodoni) says: new architecture – good living. the second part is emphasised by a green rectangle which is overlapping the photo, connecting the airy architecture with the title.
plain raw linen covers with black typography are often seen on architectural books published by girsberger / verlag für architektur (see stories 12, 51, 87).
a multicolumn layout with minimal outer margins, ...
... and grid-based placement of text and images are typically "swiss".
above a house by marcel breuer, below a project by jean prouvé.
here a pristine copy still housed in its publisher's slipcase.
