hans neuburg:
swb ausstellung der ortsgruppe zürich
kunstgewerbemuseum zürich, 1950
size: 21 x 15 cm
designer: hans neuburg (cover), karl sternbauer (inside pages)
the swiss werkbund (swb), founded in 1913, is an association of designers and architects whose goal is to achieve "good and functionally" designed products. this is the catalogue of an exhibition which showed the work of the zürich group.
the catalogue cover is a design by hans neuburg (1904-1983), one of the pionieers of the swiss "constructive" graphic design style. neuburg also contributed a text "grafik nach swb-norm": he propagates an ascetic design style without ornaments – in the vein of industrial design, modern architecture and "concrete" art.
the inside pages were designed by karl sternbauer, and many of the photographs are by hans finsler. both sternbauer and finsler were teachers at the kunstgewerbeschule (school of applied arts) in zürich.
here some furniture designed by max bill, willy and emil guhl, bernhard moosbrugger and others.
these photographs are by hugo p. herdeg, werner bischof, ...
... and ernst a. heiniger. the logos are designs by hans vollenweider, warja honegger-lavater, and carlo vivarelli.
