this book on the beauty of technology was the third issue in the schaubücher series, published by dr. emil schaeffer for orell füssli. hanns günther is a pseudonym for walter de haas (1886-?) who was an athor of many popular experimentation books for kids.

the schaubücher had a standardized cover style – see issues 95 and 96. the design is in the vein of jan tschichold's new typography, with asymmetric sans-serif titles and big page numbers. as far as i know the identity of uncredited designer of the schaubücher series has not been revealed.

the gravure-printed pictures are by acclaimed industrial photographs such as emil otto hoppé and albert renger-patzsch. some photos are printed on a red background.
