this swb catalogue, also designed by richard paul lohse (1902-1988), dates 11 years after book 196. the introductory text is by alfred altherr jr. (1911-1972).
another classic example of 1950s' swiss typography: square format, sans-serif type (akzidenz-grotesk titles), and a grid-based, multi-column (multi-language) page layout which is asymmetric to the spine. interestingly, lohse uses a grid with progressive column widths towards the right.
below a carpet by swiss textile artist elsi giauque, photographed by hans finsler.
this catalogue entry for picture frames features two lithographs by the artist who designed the catalogue.
note the stylistic unity of typography, photography and furniture in lohse's cover design – everything just matches perfectly!
over the following years there were two more editions, introduced by eugen gomringer (*1925), the new swb secretary.
the content and the design by lohse is very similar, however the size of the multi-language titles was unified also on the covers ...
... which are in different colours.
