in 1975 the kunstgewerbemuseum zürich celebrated its 100th anniversary, as we can see printed on the title page of this catalogue for an exhibition called akari – lamps from japan.
josef müller-brockmann (1914-1996) and his japanese wife shizuko yoshikawa coordinated this exhibition, and müller-brockmann also designed the catalogue. its cover is siminilar to the poster.
the typography is the strictly "neue grafik" – multi-column grid-based layout, sans-serif type in one size and weight, no indents.
the exhibition covered modern lamp designs as well as a history of lighting in japan.
