over three decades, zurich-based publisher hans girsberger published numerous books on influential swiss architect charles edouard jeanneret (1887-1965), better known under his pseudonym – le corbusier (see also story 141). by the way: "corbu" is featured on the current swiss 10 franc note.
this is the second volume of le corbusier's "oeuvre complète" series, covering the years 1929-1934 and first published in 1935. this later 1947 edition is identical in design. le corbusier's name appears on the cover in the trademark stencil letters he used in his sketches.
the spectacular dust jacket was designed by max bill (1908-1994). note the overprinting of photos and drawings in contasting colours, and especially the "3d effects" on the back.
the typography of the inner pages does not strictly follow the new typography doctrine: ...
... although the title page is set in sans-serif, the lines are centred, ...
... as are single photos on a page. below some famous pieces of furniture.
