belgian farmer's son and writer francis andré (1897-1976) was at one time a follower of trotsky's. like so many other socialist books, his 1931 novel "les affamés" (the hungry) was translated into german by hermynia zur mühlen.
this german edition was published by the gotthelf verlag, bern and leipzig (see also book story 19). the designer of the cover showing a grainy photo and an asymmetric title in a bold red erbar-grotesk is not credited.
on the rear jacket flap is an ad for eitel wolf dobert's book about a nazi who "converts" after a visit to france.
