this book is a documentation of ww1 with 221 photos from the "western front".
the photographic covers and especially the asymmetric title page with sans-serif capitals, ...
... the text in akzidenz-grotesk semibold, ...
... and the oversized numers of the photo pages are obviously influenced by jan tschichold's early "new typography" style – see e.g. book story 28.
there are dramatic photographs: above euphoric soldiers in berlin in 1914, below german bomber planes in 1917, ...
