this book with the title "women in distress" by carl credé-hoerder (1878-1952) was part of a campaign for legalising abortion as prohibited by §218 and §219 of the german criminal code – drastically visualised by women "crucified" on huge §-signs. credé was a doctor who was jailed for doing abortions. andreas karl hemberger (dates?) designed numerous book jackets for berlin publisher adalbert schultz (see jürgen holstein's "blickfang" p. 375). not much is known about hemberger, only that he lived in frankfurt, later berlin, and after ww2 in vienna.

note the sansserif type on the spine changing from white to black in the middle of the word "frauen".
