book (design) story #331
heinrich freytag:
fotobuch für talentierte Leute
otto maier verlag, ravensburg, 1960
printer: offizindruck ag, stuttgart
size: 20 x 14 cm
designer: (unknown)
the otto maier verlag in ravensbug (south germany) is an old publishing house focussing on handicraft and games.
heinrich freytag (c. 1910-1990) was a well known photographer and professor who published numerous practical books on photography such as this "photo book for talented people".
the book's typography is modernist, almost "swiss": asymmetric sans-serif titles (futura) and multicolumn layout. no designer is credited, however i know some otto maier publications of that time have been designed by the studio josef müller-brockmann (e.g. by nelly rudin). i am not absolutely sure about this book though.
among the photos are works by ernst. a. heiniger (below right).
