in the mid-1940s the bern-based benteli verlag published two books by carola giedion-welcker (1893-1979) on modern poetry: the anthology shown in book story 2, and ...
... this essay on french poet guillaume apollinaire. while the former book sported a modernist design by richard paul lohse, this one is quite different: an example of jan tschichold's (1902-1974) symmetric neo-classical style – definitely post-"new typography", but very fine and elegant.
under the printed glassine jacket a silhouette designed by hans/jean arp, also reproduced inside the book in different colour.
a publisher's leaflet is laid-in announcing a collection of poems by arp (which was designed by tschichold, too) and a book on klee.
