the next few books feature the standardised jacket designs by richard paul lohse (1902-1988) for büchergilde gutenberg's scientific books series "forschung und leben" (research and life) – see story 278 for the background.

all are designed in lohs's sigature overprinting montage style. the later jackets list previous publication of the series on the back.

douglas guthrie (1885-1975) was doctor and a medical historian in edinburgh. the original english edition of this book was published in 1945.
