another example of the standardised designs by richard paul lohse (1902-1988) for büchergilde gutenberg's scientific books series "forschung und leben" (research and life) – see story 278 for general infos. this early example has no publication list on the back yet.

this copy came with several newspaper clippings on the subject laid in.

robert luling parker (1893–1973) was a professor of petrography at the swiss federal institute of technology (eth) in zürich. for the jacket of this standard book on mineralogy lohse chose a photo and diagram of a cubic crystal – no surprise for anyone familiar with lohse's art and grahic designs: he loved right angles!
