it is the catalogue of a 1946 piet mondrian retrospective exhibition in the stedelijk museum amsterdam.

although this collection is about german-language books it is included since it was designed by friedrich vordemberge-gildewart (1899-1962), according to brattinga/petersen's sandberg book, p.154.

with its nicely balanced, asymmetric composition of sparse blue and red type on white, the cover seems to match mondrian's spirit very well.

actually there is exactly one word in german in michel seuphor's essay (in french and dutch): "überwunden", a term which apparently is difficult to express in a language other than german ...
