franz heinrich achermann (1881-1946) was a swiss catholic priest and writer. at the time his somewhat "trivial" novels were very popular in germany where he was dubbed the swiss karl may. "death dance in peace masks" is a rather hilarious story about a heroic swiss adventurer in the usa.

the cover sports a modernist cover photomontage credited in the impressum to one m(artin) gyr, a designer i don't know anything about. note the yellow triangle and circle forming a huge exclamation mark.

the asymmetric title page features walter wege's "signal" script typeface, designed in 1931. the inner pages are set in fraktur.
