printer: unionsdruckerei bern
size: 20 x 14 cm
designer: richard paul lohse

ciro alegría bazán (1909-1967) was a peruvian journalist, politician, and novelist. "el mundo es ancho y ajeno" (broad and alien is the world) is his most famous novel, first printed in 1941. this german edition was published four years later by the swiss büchergilde.

again one of the many designs by richard paul lohse (1902-1988) for this publisher. here lohse used an archaic (uncial?) script style title "logo" for the jacket, cover and title page.

native peruvian ornaments in gold on the orange cloth cover, ...

... but the title page features a modernist asymmetric arrangement.
