book (design) story #467
harald szeemann:
licht und bewegung / kinetische kunst
kunsthalle bern, 1965
printer: pochon-jent, bern
size: 24 x 18 cm
photographer: kurt blum
designer: (unknown)
here a catlogue of the kunsthalle bern for an exhibition of kinetic art. the legendary harald szeeman (1933-2005) was director at the time so i guess he wrote the introduction although his name doesn't appear in the catalogue.
the cover and title page design, also uncredited, is in the typical (swiss) modernist style – asymmetrically arranged all-lowercase akzidenz grotesk.
interesting the note in impressum: type: ibm – obviously the text pages were produced with the then revolutionary ibm selectric typewriter which was capable of proportional letter spacing. the catalogue was offset printed.
there are some interesting ads – the one on the left is influenced by concrete/visual poetry (see e.g. story 425.
