designer: walter cyliax (jacket)
luigi pirandello (1867-1937) was an important italian writer awarded with the nobel prize for literature in 1934. this is the first german edition of his novel "quaderni di serafino gubbio operatore" (1925) about a film operator. the german title "crank!" refers to the hand-operated film cameras uses at the time.
the impressive heartfield-inspired photomontage jacket was designed by walter cyliax (1899-1945). cyliax' name is not mentioned in the book – so why do i know?
well, according to the text on the jacket flap, orell füssli published it in a set with two other pirandello novels, one of which is shown in book 422 with a very similar jacket design credited to cyliax.
