orell füssli in zürich was among the first swiss publishers to adopt modernist book designs, notably in its "schaubücher" series, see e.g. stories 173 or 95. we don't know who designed the "schaubücher", ...
... and also this jacket is uncredited. the large bodoni-style letters across a yellow photograph of a hotel building in the alps are somewhat reminiscent of our previous book from the same publisher.
this successful novel by swiss writer meinrad inglin (1893-1971) about a devastating fire in a hotel in central switzerland was apparently fuelled by an autobiographical experience, i read.
the book is still printed in fraktur. on the jacket flap ads for book 481.
