book (design) story #543
albert daudistel:
die lahmen götter
die schmiede, berlin, 1924
printer: ohlenroth'sche buchdruckerei erfurt
size: 19 x 13 cm
designer: georg salter (jacket), george g. kobbe (cover)
a fine example of georg salter's (1897-1967) wavy banner jacket design for the "schmiede" novels of the 20th century series (see also previous story).
while most covers and jackets for his brother's julius salter's company "die schmiede" were designed by georg, ...
... this cover was not: berlin-based graphic artist george g. kobbe (1902-1934) designed this beautiful red flag in a starry sky.
again the two different "blacksmith" logotypes.
german author albert daudistel (1890-1955) was a german revolutionary who started writing while in prison. he dedicated this novel with the title "the lame gods" to romain rolland. in the nazi daudistel fled to denmark and finally to island where he stayed after ww2.
