swiss biologist, geologist and writer hans "hamo" morgenthaler (1890-1928) had travelled to thailand in 1917 to work for a mining company.
three years later he returned, suffering from malaria and tuberculosis. he died in 1928.
his book "matahari" about his stay in asia was first published in 1921.
this paperback second edition was published by orell füssli in a book series "strom der zeit" (stream of the time) around 1931, as the other books on the jacket's flaps and back suggests.
the jacket is designed in a modernist style, while the inner pages are identical to the 1921 first edition.
there are reproductions of 24 ink drawings by the author.
