in 1964 the gewerbemuseum basel honored two swiss graphic designers who had deceased only in their 50s: fritz bühler (1909-1963) who had worked in basel, ...

... and pierre gauchat (1902-1956) who had been based in zürich – see also story 592.

what both designers had in common: they were not dogmatic in their choice of means and styles – using figurative drawing and photography, modernist and more traditional typography, depending on what each job required.

the catalogue was designed by walter daucher (info?): sansserif set unjustified, as made popular by karl gerstner.
