in his 1936 book "dangerous east" ernst otto hauser (dates?) expresses his concerns about the political situation in east asia due to japan's rise to power.
the photomontage jacket by alfred willimann (1900-1957, see also our previous) story) features menacingly huge, red japanese letters (nippon/nihon = japan) over a dark map with a spotlight on the eastern asian region.
note the same japanese letters just in a white circle on the spine,
the autor apparently knows the region from personal stays: he dates the foreword "shanghai, february 1935".
