this catalog cover for a kunsthalle basel exhibition of sculptor alexander calder (1898-1976) remeinds very much of book story 686, ...

... likewise with a cover credited to armin hofmann (*1920) who deigned many of the kunsthalle's posters and catalogue covers in the 1950-60s.

the letters "c" for calder (and "L" for leger) are constructed from simple geometric elements.

the two exhibitions were actually shown simultaneously with one single poster where hofmann combined the two letters (see rene wanner's excellent poster page for an image.

interestingly, the two catalogues use a similiar page layout, however with different typefaces: garamond for leger, sansserif for calder.
